Check if you qualify for the Food & Home Card

The easiest way to find out if you qualify is to check your status in MyDevoted. Keep in mind:

  • Not all Devoted Health plans offer this benefit
  • This benefit is only for members who are chronically ill and meet specific plan requirements

How to use your Food & Home Card

You can use your Food & Home Card to pay for:

  • Healthy foods at participating stores
  • Certain housing costs like electricity, internet, and rent

Choose to spend your money all at once or throughout the month. Either way, be sure to use the full amount — you can’t roll over unused money to the next month. We automatically refill your card on the first of each month, so make sure you don’t throw it away!

How to buy food

  1. Shop at participating grocery stores — including Walmart, Kroger, Dollar General, Publix, Food Lion, Safeway, The Giant Company, Giant Eagle, Albertsons, Sedano's, and more
  2. Choose qualifying healthy foods
  3. Swipe your Food & Home Card as CREDIT

You can only use your card at participating stores — not at convenience stores, restaurants (including fast food), or gas stations. Find a participating store.

How to pay utility bills, mortgage, or rent

Use your 16-digit card number. Keep in mind:

  • You can pay any utility company or landlord that accepts Visa and has a qualifying Merchant Category Code (MCC) — meaning they need to be listed in Visa’s system as a utility, rent, or mortgage provider.
  • The address on the bill needs to match your address on file with Devoted.
  • If there’s a processing fee, we'll use part of your monthly benefit to pay the fee.

Common questions

How much money do I get each month?

Visit MyDevoted or check your plan documents.

Can I use the benefit before my card arrives?

Yes! You can access a digital barcode in the CVS Flex Benefits app (iPhone | Android). Note that not all retailers accept the digital barcode.

Do I need a PIN?

Nope, just swipe your card and choose CREDIT when you pay! If you select debit, the card will not work.

Do I need to spend the full amount all at once?

Nope. You can spend it however you want throughout the month, but be sure to spend it all — you can’t roll over unused money to the next month.

How do I check my balance?

There are 3 ways to check your balance:

Will I get a new card each month?

No, so be sure to hold onto your card. We automatically add more money to it on the first of each month.

What foods can I buy with the card?

You can use your card for healthy foods like:

  • Fruits and vegetables
  • Fish and lean meats
  • Eggs, cheese, milk, and other dairy products
  • Whole grains, like whole wheat bread and brown rice
  • Nuts, seeds, and spreads
  • Olive oil and other plant-based oils
  • Supplemental drinks like Boost® and Ensure®

You can’t use your card for unhealthy foods like:

  • Soda, candy, mints, or gum
  • Energy drinks
  • Salty snacks (chips, cheese puffs, popcorn, pretzels, snack mix, or pork rinds)

You also can’t use your card for:

  • Alcohol
  • Baby formula
  • Pet food

As long as you’re buying a type of food that’s allowed, you can choose any size or brand that you like. Not sure if a food qualifies? Scan the barcode in the CVS Flex Benefits app to check — or chat or call us and we’re happy to help.

What housing costs can I pay with the card?

You can pay most common bills, including:

  • Electricity, water, sewer, trash
  • Home heating fuel (like oil or home natural gas)
  • Internet and phone
  • Rent or mortgage

You can not use your card on money orders, prepaid cell phone service, cable, satellite, streaming services, or gasoline for your car.

Do I have to use the card to pay?

The easiest way to spend your Food & Home funds is to use your Food & Home Card. If you don't have your card on-hand to shop for food in-store, some stores accept the digital barcode found in the CVS Flex Benefits app (iPhone | Android).

But if you run into problems using your card for qualifying expenses, you can pay out-of-pocket and ask to be paid back. To do this, fill out a CVS Flex Benefits reimbursement request form — online on the CVS Flex Benefits portal, or call 1-855-904-3663 (TTY 711) to get a paper form.

You’ll need to include documents that prove your purchase qualifies.

For food purchases, send a copy of your receipt that shows:

  • Store name and location (for HMO members, this must be a Food & Home Card participating store)
  • Date of purchase
  • Specific items you bought and the cost of each one (must be qualifying healthy foods)
  • How you paid — like cash, debit, or credit card

For utility bills, send copies of documents that show:

  • Name of the utility company
  • Service address (must match your address on file with Devoted)
  • Payment amount
  • Date of payment

For rent and mortgage payments, send copies of documents that show:

  • Name of the landlord or bank
  • Address of the property (must match your address on file with Devoted)
  • Monthly rent or mortgage amount
  • Payment amount
  • Date of payment

A few important notes:

  • We can only pay you back up to your monthly allowance amount — minus anything you've spent using your card that month.
  • Your request to get paid back is tied to the date you paid for a qualifying item or service. Let’s say you get an electric bill on May 25 and pay it on June 10. You’ll get paid back an amount based on how much you had on your card on June 10.
  • As long as you include all the required details, you’ll get a check within 30 days of when CVS Flex Benefits receives your request to get paid back.
  • You have to request all 2027 reimbursements by March 31, 2028. For 2026, you have to get your requests in by March 31, 2027.

Can I pay bills for other people?

No, you can only pay bills for yourself.
