Change to HIV prevention benefits

Starting September 30, 2024, all Devoted Health plans cover these services at no cost through your Part B medical benefits if your healthcare provider believes you are at risk of HIV infection:

Certain medications that help prevent HIV

  • PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) pills
  • Injectable PrEP, including the cost of getting the injections

HIV prevention counseling visits
Up to 8 visits every 12 months with a healthcare provider to:

  • Check (assess) your HIV risk
  • Talk about ways to lower your risk of HIV
  • Talk about getting or staying on PrEP to prevent HIV

Screening tests for HIV and Hepatitis B

  • Up to 8 HIV screening tests every 12 months
  • 1 Hepatitis B screening test (in addition to routine yearly screening for sexually transmitted infections)

If you're living with HIV, there's no change to your coverage related to treating HIV for 2024. You’ll continue to pay your plan’s usual cost share for medications and doctor visits to treat HIV.

You don’t need to take any action based on this notice. If a provider or pharmacy tries to charge you a cost share for any HIV prevention drugs or services after September 30, give us a call right away.
